Over the past 15+ years, Dr. La has provided care for many international patients from various countries around the world …. Nigeria, France, Russia, Japan, Germany, Lebanon, Angola… just to name a few. We are excited that you have chosen our office to provide your obstetrical care.
International patients are accepted as self pay patients. Our office does not accept ANY international insurance and we cannot provide care for someone who has insurance as this is a violation of our contract with the insurance company. However, there may be other physicians who are willing to accept insurance for the patient. Please contact your insurance carrier for a list of those physicians.
Please complete the “Patient Forms/OB History – International” form to be considered as a patient. Please allow up to 2 business days for Dr. La to review the information. Upon review, an email will be sent to you notifying you of Dr. La’s decision and the next steps. At that time, we will also provide you with a customized fee schedule for your unique situation.
We require a $250 non-refundable deposit to reserve your place on Dr. La’s delivery schedule. This payment will be applied towards your total balance when you arrive. If you already have a VISA, you should not need to make any additional payments. However, if you are applying for a VISA, you may wish to make additional payments to show proof that you can afford medical care in the United States of America. Once final payment has been made, our office will provide you with the appropriate documentation for your visit to the embassy. REMEMBER, any amount over the $250 paid is 100% refundable.
Your initial appointment will be scheduled on a Monday or Tuesday when our ultrasound tech is available. Dr. La requires that the first appointment be scheduled no later than 36 weeks or earlier if you have experienced any problems with the pregnancy or are pregnant with twins. At your first appointment, we will review your medical records and subtract the cost of any labs that you have already had done and Dr. La is able to accept. Payment, in full, is due at the first office visit.
During your hospitalization, there will be other companies who will be involved in you and your baby’s care. Their fees are separate from Dr. La’s fees and are your financial responsibility. To learn more about these providers and their role in your care, please refer to “Patient Forms/Ancillary Services”.
If you require hotel, apartment or private home accommodations, while you are in Houston, please access the “Patient Forms/Local Lodging” for a list of places to stay. Taxis can be very expensive so you might want to consider staying at a location that is on the bus route which is much more economical.
